Local Restaurant Holds Fundraisers to Support Deployed Troops

NORFOLK, VIRGINIA - On Sunday, October 6th Southern Eats Restaurant is opening their doors to host a community fundraiser to raise money to send care packages to deployed U.S. Troops. Southern Eats has partnered with local charity Troopster Military Care Packs, to offer chef selected entrees of three choices to be purchased at $35 per plate. 100% of the profit for each plate purchased will be donated to send a care package to a deployed U.S. service member. Each plate will directly support an individual U.S. troop deployed overseas. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the Southern Eats fundraiser will go toward Troopster’s end of the year 4th Annual Holiday Pack Event, a community volunteer event to send more than 1,000 care packages to troops deployed out of Hampton Roads for Christmas.

Statement by Southern Eats, Owner Brian Shonyo:

“It is important to us to give back to the community,” said Brian Shonyo, owner of Southern Eats. “Being a retired Veteran I know how important it is to receive these care packages and know that people appreciate the sacrifices made by our service members. Helping to remind them that someone at home is thinking of them and to possibly help boost moral in an otherwise low moral or difficult time.”

“Southern Eat’s mission is to bring the taste of home to our patrons and provide a loving family environment with good old fashion Southern Hospitality,” said Shonyo. “What says Southern Hospitality more than being patriotic and sending our service members the gift of home, the gift of love and appreciation!”

Statement by Troopster, Founder and CEO Chelsea Mandello:

“At Troopster we are sending hundreds of care packages to the brave military members deployed overseas,” said Chelsea Mandello, founder of Troopster. “We are very excited to be working with Southern Eats for this fundraiser, especially in such a heavy military area where we can work first hand with this wonderful community to support our service members.”

Other Information:

Plate options will be between Asian Chicken, a Gourmet Burger, or Fish and Chips. Each dinner comes with a Garden Salad and a choice of complimentary water, sweet, or unsweet tea.

There will be a wine tasting at the venue at no additional cost. Wine and full bar will be available for purchase with drink specials.
